After
nearly 40 years in the political wilderness,
Oshawa is back on the political map. Re-elected
in January 2006 and 2008, Colin Carrie is providing
Oshawa a strong voice in Canada's Conservative government.
Once again,
we
need your help
Keep Oshawa Blue.
To re-elect Colin we need your moral and financial support today.
Tax credits for political donations are very generous.
So generous, in fact, that
you'll receive a tax receipt for 75% of the value of your contribution up to $400
(see chart for details). After $400, a diminishing criteria applies.
So, if you decide to donate $400, your tax receiptable portion is $300,
resulting in an actual cost of only $100.
Better yet, a contribution of $1,000 costs you only $441.67.
Changes to federal
election financing
(as of
January 1, 2007)
The
recently-proclaimed Federal Accountability Act
introduced major changes regarding federal
electoral financing. To review the rule changes,
please click here.
Only citizens and permanent
residents of Canada can make political donations to registered parties,
registered electoral district associations, candidates, nomination
contestants and leadership contestants.
Corporations, trade unions and unincorporated associations may no longer
make political donations to candidates, registered electoral district
associations or nomination contestants of registered parties.
The existing prohibition on
donations from these organizations to registered parties and leadership
contestants of registered parties remains.
Contribution limits for individuals
Only
individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents may make
contributions to registered parties, their registered electoral district
associations, leadership and nomination contestants, or to any candidate in
one calendar year. The new contribution limits for 2007 are:
-
no
more than $1,100 in any calendar year to
each registered political party;
-
no
more than $1,100 in total in any calendar
year to the various entities of each
registered political party (registered
associations, nomination contestants and
candidates);
-
no
more than $1,100 to each independent
candidate for a particular election; and,
-
no
more than $1,100 in total to the leadership
contestants in a particular leadership
contest.
Note: No individual may make a cash contribution
in an amount that exceeds $20.
Tax receipts
We are required by law to
provide you with a tax receipt prior to March 31
of the subsequent contribution year.
Our association processes tax receipts once every calendar year, usually in the
January/February timeframe.
