Colin Carrie
MP: Oshawa's Conservative candidate
Dr. Colin Carrie was
re-nominated as Oshawa's Conservative candidate
in 2009.
First elected to the House of
Commons in June 2004 and re-elected in January
2006 and October 2008, Colin currently serves as
the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of
Health. In the previous Parliament, he
served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of
Industry.
Since
becoming Oshawa's Member of Parliament, Colin
has served as Associate Critic responsible for
the automotive industry and Chair of the
Conservative Party of Canada’s (CPC) Automotive
Caucus. As a member of the Government and in
opposition (2004-06), Colin
has been at the forefront of the Conservative
government's efforts to assist Canada's manufacturing industry. In the 38th Parliament,
Colin advocated for greater choice in personal health care by
introducing
Bill C-420, An Act to Amend the Food and Drugs Act.
He has advocated on behalf of Hepatitis C victims, families dealing with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
and autistic children.
The son of a career Royal Canadian Navy officer, Colin grew up in several cities across Canada, settling in Oshawa when he was fifteen. A graduate of Oshawa's RS McLaughlin CVI, he
earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at the University of Waterloo and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1989.
Prior to entering Parliament, Colin co-owned and
operated a successful, award-winning chiropractic and
wellness clinic in Oshawa. A past executive member of the Durham Chiropractic Society and former chair of Spinal Health Week, Colin served as a Director of the
former Oshawa Federal Progressive Conservative Riding Association and was an
active participant in the
unification of the two legacy conservative parties at the local level. He and his wife Elizabeth have three young children.
